Wharfside Shopping Centre is pleased to annouce its Charity of the Year for 2020/2021 is LARF Cornwall and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

LARF Cornwall was founded in 2010 after two very special girls lost their fights against cancer, and their families wanted to not only honour their memories but help those who were in the same situation.

LARF Cornwall stands for Lauren & Rosie’s Fund, and we work in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, with teenagers and young people undergoing treatment for cancer and leukaemia. We help provide ancillary support, to stand alongside medical intervention

LARF work in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, with teenagers and young people undergoing treatment for cancer and leukaemia. They help provide ancillary support, to stand alongside medical intervention.

It’s important to them that teenagers and young people aren’t just “existing” on wards and in hospitals, and that they can make their experience a more pleasant one. They do this by raising funds to assist Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, initially in the introduction of medical facilities, equipment and support specifically designed for those aged 16 to 24. This will runs alongside the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust clinical site strategy development plan, and has resulted in much better accommodation for these young people, who don’t quite fit into either adult or paediatric care.

The long-term aim is to raise funds continually, to enable RCHT to have specialist trained medical and psychiatric staff to support individuals undergoing cancer or leukaemia treatment, either within a hospital environment or as outreach community support.
